President’s Message

After Barack Obama’s presidency, during a speech to the Economic Club of Chicago, the 44th President of the United States echoed the aspirations of Carter G. Woodson, founder of ASALH. That message was to teach the life and history of African Americans, which reflects our goal for Savannah Yamacraw ASALH. I believe everyone should know our history now more than ever, and I aspire to expose the entire community to the life, history, and culture of Black Americans in Savannah. By doing so, Savannah will recognize the richness of Black contributions through teaching our history, reading our literature, and enjoying Black arts. Please join us! There's much work to be done, and your involvement can make ASALH’s goals achievable.

Humbly,

Dr. Freddie H. Gilyard

President
